WAY TO GO HAWKS!!!!!!
Throughout the history of education, administrators and teachers everywhere have recognized the important contributions parents make toward a child’s success in school. There is no question about it, the influence of parental involvement on a student’s academic success is great and should not be underestimated. As I walk the halls and visit classrooms, I get to witness students accomplishing amazing things and I realize the role supportive parents have played in these accomplishments.
As many of you know, West Haven Elementary is part of the Roy Cone initiative entitled Prosperity 2020. As part of this initiative, we have been asked to increase student achievement by cutting down student absenteeism. This is especially important for elementary students because research shows that “by the sixth grade, absenteeism is one of the three signs that a student may drop out of high school.” In addition, attendance is also important because “missing 10 percent, or about 18 days, of the school year can drastically affect a student’s academic success” (www.attendanceworks.org.) As we prepare to enter the 4th quarter of the school year on March 16th, I would like to remind everyone of the importance of coming to school each day on time and staying for the entire school day.
We have amazing teachers at West Haven Elementary and they spend countless hours preparing quality instruction for your students. We love our West Haven students and want to ensure they have the opportunity to reach their full potential because they come to school on time each day.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any suggestions, questions or concerns.
Have a great month!
